Website of Hyderabad police launched

‘hyderabadpolice.gov.in’ covers all aspects of policing extensively

Alerts about possible traffic congestions in the city due to processions

Status of the background verification of passport applicants to be given

HYDERABAD:

The Hyderabad police finally went online on Monday by launching an innovative and informative website ‘hyderabadpolice.gov.in’.

Covering extensively all aspects of policing in Hyderabad, the website has almost every detail people want to know about the city police. From the telephone number of Police Commissioner to the Sub-Inspector of the sector concerned to emergency services available in the State capital, it has huge database useful to the common man.

The home page has links like Find your police station, Crime, Frauds, Women’s Corner, Fighting terror, Check yourself and How do I. Using these links, one can find in which police station area a particular locality comes, the type of crimes reported, tips on how to safeguard oneself from offenders and the different modus operandi adopted by tricksters.

So extensive is the data on the website that it even has an advisory for a person planning to select life partner online or parents fixing NRI alliances for their wards. “This information became crucial because many complaints about NRI bridegrooms are coming and cases of cheating of fixing alliances online are going up,” the Detective Department DCP, R.S. Praveen Kumar, who was instrumental in preparing the website, explained.

General information

Alerts and information useful to general public are also posted on the website from time to time. Important are the alerts about possible traffic congestions and jams in the city arising out of processions or demonstrations being organised by various parties and organisations. The Check Yourself link gives database of stolen vehicles and mobile phones.

Checking this data, a person can make sure if the pre-owned vehicle or phone being purchased is stolen or genuine.

It also throws light on the status of the background verification of passport applicants. Under ‘How Do I’ details as to how to secure birth and death certificate, new gas connection, an arms license and even new electricity connection are given. Soon, details on claiming insurance amounts, securing water connections, water-logging areas and accident prone stretches would be posted on the website.

Minister for Home K. Jana Reddy, who formally launched the website, suggested to officials that instead of replying vaguely, the exact time period to be taken for completion of the passport applicant’s background verification should be given. Police Commissioner B. Prasada Rao and other senior officials were present.
